An outstanding double sided 18th century Altar Fragment from Northern Italy. A truly remarkable piece constructed from water gilded and polychromed wood. To one side, it is visible where this fragment was removed from another piece - beautifully decorated in an architectural motif with sunburst and clouds. The other side - equally as magnificent is decorated with an arid landscape composed of a church, a castle, a palm tree, sunburst and clouds.... Possibly southern Italy or Malta.
