French 18th Century Fireback TRI966

A wonderful early 18th century fireback from the South of France. A luxury item that served not only to adorn the fireplace, but to protect the backwall of the fireplace and to radiate heat outwards. Beautifully cast in iron and decorated with "mirrors reflecting the spirit of Christ on the viewer". Dated 1731. Firebacks also serve beautifully as kitchen back splashes and wall-mounted pieces for the interior or any garden.
